About REALM: Coach Gunny and Coach Reed
Welcome to the REALM
Dreamed up by Coaches Craig Gunny, Dan Cottrell, and Reed Maltbie, the Coaches REALM is a coach development and mentoring program to help coaches refine their lives, their skills, and their long-term goals. The program is anchored by a 2-week intensive Road map where coaches work one on two with Gunny and Reed through video analysis, daily texts, and weekly zoom calls. The goal of REALM is to create custom coaching development plans for coaches to follow and journey alongside mentors and peers. We offer Resources, Expertise, Accountability, Learning, and Mastery opportunities to ensure your coaching is refined to its purest and powerful form.
The Coaches will work side by side with you in 3 primary Domains:
Coach (Feeling) - Well-Being. "Please out on your own oxygen mask before helping others".Mission ready for the journey. The pathos domain helps coaches set a firm personal foundation for success. Before a coach can be responsible for the well-being of the athletes she works with, she must be able to take care of herself. In the airline industry, in case of emergency, they tell parents traveling with small children to put on their own oxygen masks before they help the child. Pathos is about the coaches putting on their oxygen masks so they can best serve their athletes. Pathos is about the “Who” in the coaching equation. The well-being domain is focused on 4 areas -
1. Plenty of Sleep (Rest)
2. Proper Exercise (Preparation)
3. Eating Well (Fuel)
3. Time for Recovery (Recovery)
Character (Ethics) - Beliefs. "As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters."A noble reason for the journey. Once a coach has set a strong self-care foundation for success, he or she must also set an ethics foundation. Coaches must be crystal clear on their values, their philosophies, their mission and goals in order to help athletes achieve excellence. These are the foundational elements that will drive behaviors in coaching. We will help coaches craft their own personal business plan for remaining true to their own purpose and vision. Ethos is the “Why” of coaching. The ethics domain is focused on 4 areas -
1. Mission/Vision (The destination)
2. Career Goals (The roadmap)
3. Coaching Philosophy (The mode of transportation)
4. Core Values (The GPS)
Craft (Logic) - "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".Critical Thinking for the journey. Logos addresses the need for coaches to be on a lifelong learning journey in order to hone their craft, be intellects within their sport, and adapt to the ever-changing sport and athlete landscapes. This is the learning blueprint for how they will achieve their career goals: their long-term coaching development plan. If coaches expect athletes to be learners and open to growth, they must model that in their own career aspirations. Logos is the “What” of coaching. The logos domain is focused on 4 areas -
1. Learning (seeking new knowledge)
2. Application (using new and current knowledge properly)
3. Reflection (reviewing current abilities)
4. Adaptation (changing to fit athletes, circumstances, etc)
After coaches have completed The Launch stage, they can choose to remain in a monthly "Mentormind" with the mentors and other REALM coaches, access the online resources without the "Mentormind" portion, or continue their journey on their own (though you are always welcome back in the REALM).
