Hannah Boardman

Master your Mind Cognitive Hypnotherapist & Coach

Hi, my name is Hannah and I am a Cognitive Hypnotherapist and Coach.

I help girls and women all over the world to reclaim their life, so their problems no longer define them. They find their voice, tap into their power and ultimately unleash their true, free selves into the world.

Specialist Area: Food & Weight issues & Eating Disorders

After 10 years of living with an Eating Disorder, I am completely recovered. However, recovery felt extremely traumatic, as I had tried everything out there and was still suffering daily. It was only when I began to look outside the norm for a complete solution, was I able to say good-bye forever. However, beating my ED was only the beginning. This gave me the freedom to find my voice and start to create a vision for what I wanted my life to be like. Something which I could never even contemplate before as my Eating Disorder was crushing my true self and any ambition I had. If I can do it, after years of many failed attempts and getting to a place of complete hopelessness, so can you!

My different approach

Having spent the last 12 years working in the field of mental health, I have in multiple therapeutic approaches in order to provide my clients with a complete, holistic solution to their recovery. My practice is accredited by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNCH), Australian Hypnotherapy Association (AHA), National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and  Hypnotherapy Council Australia (HCA).

After a few unsuccessful recovery attempts I began to doubt myself and question whether full recovery is possible. I lost motivation so quickly and found myself giving in more easily to my eating disorder. As a result, my eating disorder continued to control my life and in the ens I just resigned myself to the idea that this is how my life would be and I felt utterly hopeless! Working through my programme, for the first time I felt fully supported and clear on what I needed to do and feeling reassured that Hannah too had been through recovery and knew what it was like.  I went all in and committed myself 100% for 6 months, putting in the work and making my recovery a priority. I would leave our sessions feeling empowered rather than broken and unfixable. I now feel like a new person and has discovered who she really is and I am actually excited for life now! Thank-you!

"I lost hope that I could fully recover"

I was so so scared to reach out for help because I really feared what people would say, so I continued to hide my issues, putting on this ‘I’m ok’ act. As a result, I carried on struggling in secret for years and could feel my eating disorder becoming stronger and stronger. The first and biggest step for me was gaining the understanding of my mind and behaviours and knew how to communicate this in the best way which didn’t leave me feeling guilty and ashamed. I then felt like I could open up and tell the truth to my family and friends. Once I realised there was no judgement and asked for extra support from my family in the right way, omg I felt like a huge weight has been lifted. I have not binged in over a year and I am totally focused on my career, my social life is better than ever and I have never felt healthier and more alive.

"I was so scared to tell"

I felt so alone and that nobody truly understood what I was struggling with. Over time I became more isolated and withdrawn, losing the close bond I had with my family and damaging the close friendships around me. I became more and more obsessed by my eating disorder, food and placed this as number 1 priority in my life. It controlled everything I did. When I first saw Hannah, she shared her story and own struggles. It was so refreshing and reassuring to speak with someone had been where I was and truly understood with no judgement. It was then that I made a decision to commit myself 100% and put trust in Hannah. Now I am feeling so much more confident, enjoying life more than ever before and I have met a great group of like-minded ladies and have become much closer to my family- I even go out to dinner with them now, something which I would always have avoided in the past. I’m getting my life back!

"I felt like nobody truly understood"
Eating Disorders are highly complex, affecting the individual at multiple levels; psychologically, physically, biologically and environmentally. Every Eating Disorder is different, so there is no one-size fits all approach. Traditional recovery approaches appear limited, with as little as 20% of individuals fully recovering. So, what is missing? Eating Disorders affect every aspect of the individual and their lives, so  I believe we need to start looking at more complete, holistic and personalised solutions in order to help more people achieve permanent recovery.

I have developed an alternative recovery approach focusing on holistic health and working with both individuals and their families to create a united, supportive and safe environment to foster change at all levels. I will be sharing with you the exact steps I took myself and also take with my clients to help them finally gain the freedom from their Eating Disorder, even when they have tried everything else and have hit rock bottom.

My programme uses multiple therapeutic approaches all under one personalised plan. You will also be given your own between-session support programme to help you to navigate through any challenges outside of our sessions. This includes 24/7 support from me via email, text and What’s app. Your family will also be included and offered complimentary sessions to ensure we create a united front with everybody on the same page.

I offer 2 programme options, depending on the level of support you feel would be most beneficial to where you are right now. You are free to swap to the alternative option at any point in your recovery if you feel that your needs have changed. The options are a pay per month programme, where your recovery investments is automatically renewed.

I don't believe in setting a time limit for recovery; everything we do is entirely outcome based & focused on building up your strength & confidence to help you reach your goals. Compared to other recovery programmes, I want to make this as affordable as possible. Everybody deserves to get the full support they need to be able to have the best chance of overcoming their eating disorder for good!

All I ask is that you are serious about giving recovery a real chance before signing up & you enter this process 100% committed. If you give me 100% I will give you 150% back. In the first few weeks I spend a lot of time  getting to know you & working on create a truly personal plan of action.

1. Complementary appointment to get to know each other

If you are anything like I was, I saw many different therapists, often just for 1 session as I felt that they ‘didn’t get me’. This is why I offer a complementary 30 minute appointment in person or on Skype so we can get to know each other & from there we can make a decision whether we are the right match for each other. The ‘1 session then change' approach just slows down recovery & I want to make sure this does not happen for you.

2. 90 minute first session

This is where we delve a little deeper into you, your eating disorder & everything it is affecting in your life. I treat food as a symptom of something else going on for you & this session will look to explore where all of this came from & is the basis of how I build & what I include within your recovery programme.

3. Weekly outcome-based follow ups

Subsequent sessions will be weekly, either in person or on Skype. This ensures enough continuity & builds momentum when you begin to see changes. All follow ups are outcome-based rather than time-based so we will continue until whatever we are working on that week is resolved & you can leave feeling empowered, not cut off because of timings.

4. Weekly accountability tasks to complete

I am also here as your accountability buddy & part of this I will be asking you to complete a set of tasks each week between sessions. The purpose of these tasks is to continue to build on the great work we do in our sessions & to ensure we continue to progress over the next 7 days. These tasks can be anything from journalling, gratitude, self-love & kindness to working on diet, exercise or any physical symptoms.

5. Personalised between-session support programme

The thing that really got me about seeing a therapist was the fact that I could leave the session in a good place, but something may happen in the week & I would get triggered back & relapse. I felt un-supported & helpless knowing I had to wait another 5 days until I could see my therapist.  The fact is 60% of changes happen outside sessions! This is why you will also be given your own personalised between-session support programme which includes:

  • Round the clock support from me via email, Whats app, Facebook or text. I often receive messages such as;“ help I’m feeling really anxious today & I don’t know what to do”. I am here for you to help you manage any unwanted thoughts or feelings BEFORE you become triggered.
  • You will be given tasks & strategies to use daily to help keep you on track.
  • Mid session check in via phone or Skype. If you feel like you need a check-in from your accountability buddy mid-week we can talk through the last few days & set you up for success until you see me.
  • I will write you your own unique hypnosis recording for you to listen to before you go to sleep or as a calming tool. This again builds on the shifts which happen in our sessions & primes your unconscious for the deep-rooted changes which will help overcome the root cause of your eating disorder.

6. Diet and Gastro-intestional symptom management & advice

It is well known that during recovery GI symptoms can develop & this can really slow down your progress. General diet advice may not be helpful when you are suffering with GI symptoms. I have a diagnosed digestive condition which impacted my recovery, so I had to look outside the normal gut management advice. I will help you to manage any symptoms you are suffering with & offer diet & supplement advice to ensure that you stay on track.

7. Complementary monthly sessions for struggling parents/family members

Eating Disorders do not just impact the individual. There can also be huge emotional impact on their families & people close to them. My ED nearly destroyed my family relationship as nobody knew how to cope & help. This created tension & fear at home, rather than a safe place to recover. This can seriously impact the length of recovery.Your mum, dad, brother, aunt, best friend will be offered a free session per month to support them through recovery.

8. Access to motivational tools & advice for FREE

You will be sent weekly tools, tips and strategies to keep you motivated and on track.

This varies massively from client to client. I offer a Treatment Programme which consists of a series of bespoke sessions (typically around four appointments) however some people prefer to maintain contact on a consistent basis until they feel confident in their abilities. We can discuss sessions over the phone however typically most people attend between two and four sessions. Many clients like to attend coaching sessions following the completion of their Treatment Programme which gives them the skills to recognise trigger situations and to deal with them independently.
