Picture this: a determined Grandma
on a mission to pry her grandkids (and ALL kids)
away from their screens and

into the great outdoors

>> Armed first with a local parks map, she knew there was more to this adventure than just fresh air.

>> She wanted to ignite their curiosity.

>> To get them exploring and having adventures and learning beyond the formal school system.

>> Undeterred, this resourceful grandma took matters into her own hands and crafted a one-of-a-kind Adventure Journal to guide their park explorations and over 320 other fun things to do both indoors and outdoors!

>> But she didn't stop there!! She developed a reward system, designed a t-shirt they could get, and even gave them ideas to become a kid entrepreneur.

>> She even looked for adventures beyond the local community.

WHY??? Because...

Spending more than two hours a day on screens has serious impacts:

  1. Mental Health: Increases the risk of depression by 60% and anxiety by 70% (UK Parliament).
  2. Physical Health: Raises the likelihood of obesity by 30% and leads to 50% weaker hand and wrist strength (Home) (UK Parliament).
  3. Cognitive Development: Slows processing speed by 40% and reduces memory performance by 35% (UK Parliament).
  4. Sleep Problems: Increases the likelihood of sleep disturbances by 70%, resulting in more tiredness and 50% reduced focus in school (Home) (UK Parliament).

The New York best selling author, Jonathon Haidt in his book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidlemic of Mental Illness on page 24 said there was a very large upturn in major depressive episodes beginning around 2012. Roughly a 150% increase in depression in both girls and boys. It happened across all races and social classes and was linked to the amount of time spent on screen.

These stats highlight the urgent need to promote activities for children's overall well-being not associated with screens.

 Hi,

My name is Nina Hershberger.

My husband and I moved to Fishers in 2018 to be close to our 7 elementary age grandchildren.

I watched as kids got more addicted to their screens so I had a goal to get them off and out exploring.  I decided to create a PRINTED book-type journal.

No app - nothing electronic.

Something that didn't exist yet and would capture the kids attention and get them excited.

I began working on an Adventures Journal in 2023 and got alot of feedback along the way from kids and adults alike.

My journal caught the attention of

      • the Fishers Mayor,
      • the Fishers City Council,
      • the Parks Department,
      • the Fishers School System,
      • and more parents and grapndparents than I can count.

We are all united by a common goal: to encourage children to explore the world beyond their electronics.

Fueled by their support, I set my sights on an ambitious target:
giving the journal to every
third grader in Fishers.

And I knew I couldn't do it alone.

That's around 1,600 kids!

The only way I can do this is through of the
generosity of businesses who want to see the kids off their screens and out exploring as well.

Who are concerned about the mental health of kids these days. Who are watching the explosion of obestiy and want to make a difference in the lives of kids and families.

I recognized that for this project to truly succeed, however, it needs to benefit everyone involved:

  • the students,
  • their families,
  • and YOU the local business

It had to be a win-win-win cross-promotion

Here's how YOU can get involved...

  • Be the overall major sponsor - I'll change the cover of the journal to give your business credit for gifting the journal to the students. (1 major sponsor only)
  • Or have your business featured on the back cover, inside cover or a 2-page spreasd inside the journal.
  • Sponsor a park - for those businesses who are close to a park this is a great opportunity to give a special family offer for them to come into your business (think restaurant, coffee shop, car dealership, or any other business wanting walk in business). go here to see inside the journal and you'll see places at the bottom of each of the park page to include a special offer for people to visit your business. (1 sponsor per park only for only $500 per park)
  • Sponsor a school - do you have a special relationship with one of the Fishers elementary schools?  Your business could pay for the journals for that school and get recognition for it.
  • Sponsor the t-shirts - I've desiged a young park explorer t-shirt. I'm looking for businesses who would like their logo on the shirt and recognition. I'm also looking for a business who would like the families coming into their business to get the free t-shirt after having filled out the journal from each of the parks.
  • Sponsor a coloring contest - at the back of the journal are 4 coloring pages that students can color using unusual things they find outside like leaf rubbings or sand. They are to take their page to a business who wants the walk-ins and will display the coloring pages and get votes for the best one. Ideally the winner will win something - maybe a new bike. Votes will be made by putting money in a jar under each picture with all the money going to a non profit of your choice. We will do a Facebook Live when the winners are announced. (4 sponsors only)
  • Sponsor the financial education - see pages 139 - 149 in the inside of the journal.  I thought it was important for kids to learn finances and maybe become a kid entrepreneur.
  • Or simply choose from 18 other ways I can cross-promote your business through the journal

To make a win for the businesses I want to give at least 2x - 10x the value for your partnership.

Let's put a package together that makes it
a homerun for you and your business

  • You might want alot of social media shout outs
  • or professionally produced videos for your business
  • or something we could do for your family (like having one of your own kids be on our Young Park Explorer Youtube channel - we're working with a professional who has produced a channel for years)

We can also do things like:

  • Interview you on our "Our Favorite Business Podcast" that is syndicated across the internet
  • Add your logo to the Young Park Explorer T-shirts
  • Write an article to be included in the Adventures Journal about your business
  • Feature you on a Facebook Live
  • Have our Young Park Explorer and Park Ranger shoot videos from your business
  • Send out a local press release about your support to local media
  • Send out a nationally syndicated press release about your business and support of the Adventure Journal
  • Give you copies of the journal to pass out to your friends, family and customers. We can even customize the journal covers for you.
  • Design and put a full page ad on the back of the journal
  • Feature you on the front of Renegade Business Success Magazine sharing the story how you're helping kids get off their screen. I'll give you 25 copies to use in your marketing of your business and a high res pdf to get more printed.
  • Add your business card inside the journal
  • Invitation to a meet and greet with all the other journal sponsors
  • Put you on an "Emergency Guide" for families to put on their refrigerators. (Click here to see what the guide looks like)

By sponsoring the Fishers Adventure Journal,
your business can play a pivotal role in
nurturing a generation of
curious, engaged, and adventurous young minds
while showcasing your commitment to the well-being and growth of our community.
