Allana Robinson

Child Passenger Safety Technician

Hey there- I'm Allana, your friendly neighbourhood CPSAC certified CPST for Pembroke/Petawawa. Child Passenger Safety Technicians specialise in ensuring your child is as safe as they can possibly be when in a passenger vehicle. I have been a CPST in good standing for the past two years and am currently working towards receiving my Instructor level certification. I am also a founding member of the Renfrew County Car Seats safety coalition.

Did you know that 90% of car seats are installed incorrectly? (That's actually rounding down.) Unfortunately, car seats aren't as simple as they appear to be. When we were kids our parents could count on the local fire department for help- but as the number of car and seat models available BOOMED- it quickly became out of their scope. Now, certified CPSTs make it their mission to ensure your child is in the right car seat, and that it's installed and used correctly- every time. Your baby's life depends on it.

The Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada (CPSAC) is the only nationally recognised child passenger certifying body. Certification requires yearly updates to ensure you're receiving the most recent information. Technicians across Canada work together to troubleshoot, find answers, and make sure when it comes to your child's safety- nothing is left to chance.

Please note: currently on-site checks are only available on a case-by-case basis. Should you wish to have me come to you, please hit the Contact Me button and we can make arrangements.

Your vehicle manual, your carseat(s) manual(s), the vehicle the seat(s) need to be installed in, and the seat(s) themselves. If your child is available (and happy!) they are encouraged to attend the appointment so we can properly adjust the seat for them, however it is not mandatory.
Please clean out your car of any food or debris prior to your appointment. BOTH of us will be crawling around in your car. While doing this- please check your back seat bight (the crease where the seat and the back of the bench meet) for any foreign objects. You'd be surprised what can get wedged in there, and injuries have happened.
Because I don't just look in your car, check your installation over, and give you a stamp of approval. A seat check involves parent education, checking your seat to ensure all the parts are working as intended, checking your seat for recalls and expiry, and teaching YOU to install your car seat(s) correctly. A simple installation takes an hour- complicated installations can take much longer.
Yes, you'll receive a CPSAC pamphlet that summarises the important parts of your car seat education as well as a CPSAC seat check form. This form is provided mainly as a record of your appointment- but can be used as proof should law enforcement or other agencies require it. Note that the check form is only valid for the installation as it is when it leaves the appointment- once you remove the seat and reinstall it the check form is no longer valid.
Checks take place at my home in Petawawa. Your confirmation email contains all the information you need to be prepared for your check- including the address and where to park when you arrive.
Seat checks are non-refundable. I do understand that as parents things come up unexpectedly- so you may reschedule up until 1 hour prior to the check (click the link in your confirmation email.) No-shows will not be refunded or allowed to reschedule. You are counted as a no-show 20 minutes after the time that you booked without any communication. If you missed your appointment, please book a new one.
