Through Career Camp, I realized that there are so many job opportunities for me beyond teaching, and that I don't necessarily have to reinvent the wheel (in terms of learning something new) to find a career path that will allow me to use my linguistics skills. The Career Camp activities taught me how to properly look for a job online and determine whether it is likely to be a good fit for me (and then how to sell myself to that employer). I'm excited for what the future holds. :)

Thank you for presenting today. We were buzzing with excitement and spent a few minutes debriefing. One person said, "She was just listening on a different plane." We were all really excited about the format, but especially intrigued by how you came up quickly with suggestions for how Jennifer and Robin could use their stories and share them with some "meaning" attached. We were totally wow'd by how you think.

When I started thinking about leaving academia, I was having a hard time imagining what else I might do. I was also struggling with my confidence and had begun to question what I really had to offer outside that environment.

Anna Marie helped me see things differently. She picked up on things I'd said in passing and pointed out where I seemed particularly excited about something, or where I might be underselling a skill I had. Those conversations really shook something loose for me. I started to recognize that the way I'd been measuring my own professional value wasn't the only frame of reference there was.

She didn't tell me what to do next. What she gave me was a greater sense that I actually had choices. That gave me the confidence to keep exploring, talking to people, and letting the picture emerge. Eventually, that process led me to a new career that's been a very good fit.
