**BREAKING NEWS!!!**
Cherish Local is excited to announce they are expanding into Holly, Michigan next month. The Founder and Owner of Cherish Local, Marty Carry, is a 1983 Broncho Graduate! Marty and his wife Mary (please don't laugh), met at Perry Place Apartments in Grand Blanc in July of 1990 and were married a year later. Their daughter Megan is a Social Media Manager for a pharmacy group based in Grass Lake, Michigan. Marty and Mary have resided in Grand Blanc for the better part of their 30-year marriage.
Marty's first job was as a busboy at The Holly Hotel when he was 16 years of age back in 1983. He worked there for the better part of 3 years. Later Marty joined the Fenton Hotel and was promoted to Head Waiter in the late '80s. After 11 years in the foodservice business, Marty began working for the Oakland Press in an entry-level position for their niche real estate publications. Carry quickly rose through the ranks and when he left the Oakland Press he held the position of Classified Advertising Director over the entire automotive and real estate divisions.
Carry's goal was to be an advertising director before he turned 40 and he achieved this when hired as the Advertising Director of The Observer & Eccentric Newspapers, based in Livonia, Birmingham & Rochester, from 2004-2009.
Marty earned his first Vice President of Advertising position in 2009 with The Wichita Eagle. He took the worst-performing paper in McClatchy to one of the top performers within a year! With that success GateHouse Media, now Gannett, recruited Carry to serve in the same capacity for the State Journal-Register, based in Springfield Illinois from 2012 to 2015. Again, he performed a swift and powerful turnaround taking the worst-performing newspaper to the BEST performing large daily newspaper in the GateHouse group.
Carry's proudest newspaper turnaround performance came next when recruited to join The Arizona Daily Star in Tucson Arizona on May 5th, 2015. When Carry joined The Star they were $1,000,000 behind their budget with less than 4 months remaining in their fiscal which ended at the end of September. Due to the hard work of their entire department head team led by now-retired Mark Henschen, Carry and the team pulled off the miracle of a $1,000,000 turnaround in less than 4 months.
At this point, Carry felt he had accomplished all he had set out to in the media business and he had a dream to open an online marketing and publishing business in the spring of 2016. His bride Mary was obviously fatigued with all the moves and their daughter Megan was graduating from Kansas State University in December of 2016 so the timing was perfect. Initial Marty called his company Carry Advertising but after a few weeks said to himself, people won't care about that name...he wanted to have a name that defined what he envisioned for his company...and it came to him...Cherish Local was born in April of 2016.
The Carry's agreed that Tucson may be a nice place to visit and quickly returned to the place it all started, Grand Blanc, Michigan. They had been renting their home and the lease was expiring at the end of June! The Carry's moved back to the home they purchased back in 2003.
As with many startups, Cherish Local, has gone through a few iterations and unfortunately had to shut down due to serious health issues for March of 2019 through most of 2020. However, Cherish Local has recently come roaring back and is VERY excited to announce their expansion into Holly. It is important to note that Kurt Chappelle of the Lafontaine Auto Group and Bill Jobes of Jobes Technology Solutions played a big role in this expansion. Without their confidence in Cherish Local this expansion may have never happened.
