About Me

I work as a doula and childbirth educator because I know that when birthing people get the information they need to make the birth of their baby a positive experience, they then have the tools to make childbirth empowering, ecstatic and even fabulous, a far cry from the kind of experiences many people have today.
I have spoken at many conferences throughout the UK and internationally on this subject and have been on BBC 1, BBC Family and Education and BBC Five Live discussing how we can have better birth experiences.

I specialise in natural birth helping my clients understand the key things they need to know to stack the odds in their favour to have the best birth possible and avoid unnecessary intervention.

When we are in possession of the right mental tools and information, we can make informed decisions. When we surround ourselves with people who respect physiological birth this gives us the maximum chance of our experiences being safer, thus protecting both own mental and physical health as well as that of our babies.

I share a combination of ancient birthing wisdom as well as a framework to navigate modern maternity services in a way that feels best to you.

My own mother’s birth with me was very medicalised and was not a pleasant experience. I had grown up with the idea that birth was something to be endured rather than enjoyed.

I was fortunate to have been shown a path during my first pregnancy to transform my own birth experience. It was so profound and powerful and I now help others to do the same.

I write spoken word poetry about birth and have spoken at many international conferences and events. In 2019, I was keynote speaker at the 14TH Normal Labour and Birth Conference where I launched #ENOUGH: The War on Birth Physiology.

I teach the tools people need to have a positive birth experience and that way you start parenthood feeling strong.

I help mums-to-be and their partners understand what steps they can take to protect themselves from unnecessary interventions. Natural childbirth is my passion and I help my clients stack the odds in their favour to achieve that.

I specialise in first time mums and natural birth after previous traumatic experiences in birth or otherwise.

Hypnobirthing may sound like a strange word but it  is a way for you to be in control, calm and maximise your own birthing potential.

As said, the birth of my second child featured on the groundbreaking and very entertaining BBC1 birth education documentary (Childbirth All Or Nothing). I wanted to share that if we know how to prepare well, we can transform our birth experiences. It was a great programme although many of the tips were edited out. I became so passionate about the subject that I left my job in psychology in the NHS to become a doula and a Hypnobirthing Teacher helping people have great birth experiences. I am also a teacher trainer for the Diploma Course in KG Hypnobirthing, the largest brand of Hypnobirthing in the UK.

As a doula, I have been on BBC Five Live as well as BBC Family Education discussing how to have positive birth experiences after trauma.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, learning the skills to stay calm, focused and in control in pregnancy and labour has never been more important. With so much misinformation and fear around birth in society, we need to be well prepared and informed in order to have a positive experience. Too many people wing it and wished they hadn't. Positive birth preparation in all areas stacks the odds in our favour to start parenthood feeling strong, capable and powerful. I don't think it's fair to send women to give birth unprepared. 'If only I'd have known' is a phrase we hear all too often.

When I was first pregnant, the thought of birth made me really scared. I had grown up with my mum's traumatic story of her birth with me and I'd seen birth on TV.

I feel incredibly lucky to have met various people throughout my pregnancy who showed me a different way and I will be forever grateful. I know most people aren't that lucky which is why I share what I know to help others.

Before I was a birthkeeper, I worked for 8 years in the NHS working with psychological techniques for anxiety and pain management so teaching people how to manage their birth experiences seemed like a lateral sidestep!

There are many different ways to work with me on my birth workshops and courses. I run one to one sessions paid by the hour to enable you to discuss the things YOU want to know or discover in a safe space. You can book in for a 20 minute chat or alternatively, go ahead and book the session of your choice through this page.

Any questions you may either call me on 07967 622884 or email [email protected]

Book Me

Hi,
If you would like to chat to before you book in, please book a session so we can see if we are a good fit. This is essential if you are booking me as your doula as we will need to see if my values align with what you are after and if I am available during your 'on call period' as babies don't have a schedule and usually appear sometime after 37 weeks according to the NICE guidelines!

Testimonials

“Thank you Kati for the brilliant hypnobirthing course. We had a pretty awful birthing experience with our first and were determined to have a more positive result second time round. We had a great home birth using the hypnobirthing techniques you taught us. It worked a treat and we got exactly what we wanted, a smooth and easy labour and delivery. We couldn’t have done it without you and your continued support long after your sessions ended. Thank you for giving us the confidence to navigate the voices of doom who said we couldn’t do it and the tools to stay calm during the event itself! It made all the difference and we couldn’t be happier.”

We Got Exactly What We Wanted

“One of my best decisions ever!!! After having my first child by emergency c-section, we were really sure we wanted to do things different on the second pregnancy and we also wanted a home birth. We did the hypnobirth and birth empowering birth course with her that I recommend 100%, not only if it’s your first time but also if you didn’t have prior good birth experiences. It gave me confidence, strength and calm.During the pregnancy she was always there for me with a smile and a calm voice <3On the day of the birth she was outstanding, she came home when I was already with some surges from a few hours, she helped us protecting our private space, making sure I had everithing I needed , without even ask. She know it . She breath with me when I needed, hold my hand when I needed ( I must say I nearly broke her a finger! Sorry..) And also REALLY important she was there for my husband too. We were like a pack! Her calm during all the birth made us fell calm as well and secure.Juliette was born and I was the happiest person in the world! After that she was still breathing with me, when I delivered the placenta, when I had a few stitches on the sofa…She also made me the most tasty placenta smoothie! Honestly it was really nice !When everything was calm and midwifes went back to hospital, she was there on my side, cleaning me, feeding me…with the same energy. After I don’t know how many hours…Thanks so much from the bottom of hour hearts to be there for us always  <3 <3”

One of my best decisions ever!!!

I can’t thank you enough for helping us to make mine, and most importantly, Isabelle’s birthing experience calm and full of love.We took your silver package and I can’t recommend it enough to expecting couples.A lot of what we covered in your sessions, Isabelle had been doing for a while in yoga, however, I wasn’t aware of some of the techniques and ways to create a calm space for Isabelle and our baby in labour.I used many of your handy tips, including how to ask questions, how to negotiat with the midwifes and help create a room full of oxytocin. Our baby boy was born on the 6th of may and thanks, in part to you and our sessions together, I felt confident going into the birthing suite and created an invisible force field around Isabelle and Louis.I can’t thank you enough.”

I can’t thank you enough!

“Kati supported me with hypnobirthing and as my doula for the birth of my second child Jessica. She always respected my views and thoughts about how I wanted things to be. When I asked, she shared thoughts and ideas, but never tried to influence me to a particular course of action. I’m pretty clear on what I think and what I want and  Kati acted to empower me and fill in any gaps. When the time came Kati responded really quickly to support me in labour. She was there before the midwives and worked quietly, seamlessly and discretely with the midwife team. It was a perfect combination of practical skill and serenity.I did have a small complication afterwards and Kati went over and above to come to me at hospital and stay with me talking and reassuring through a lot of ramblings from me. This was definitely over and above what I could have expected. She also came to see us a couple of days later to meet Jessica properly and has stayed in touch since. I couldn’t recommend her highly enough. My husband says 2 girls is enough but if I ever did have enough I would certainly want Kati’s support. Hypnobirthing and the support of a doula is the best way to birth in my view. Thanks Kati.”
